The Role

About The Role: Exhall Grange is a 4-19 community maintained specialist school which meets the needs of children and young people with visual impairment, physical disabilities, complex medical needs and social and communication interaction difficulties.
We offer a mainstream curriculum and endeavour to break down barriers to learning. Through high quality teaching and personalised support, we aim to unlock the potential of every pupil so that they leave our school as well-rounded citizens, ready to embrace the next step of their learning journey.

Key Requirements

Applicants should :-
• Hold a recognised and relevant NVQ level 2 qualification and have undertaken other appropriate training (preferably leading to national standards at NVQ level 3) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, experience and skills
• Have at least GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at grade A-C
• Have good level of knowledge and understanding of SEND and areas of the curriculum
• Have good communication and listening skills and be able to present information verbally and in writing to others
• Previous experience of TA work
• Be able to understand and support the curriculum

PE Teaching Assistant Apprentice - closing date is 31st January 2022

Salary information £159.10 per week

Working week Monday to Friday 8.40am – 4.40pm Total hours per week: 37.00

Expected duration – 18 months

Possible start date – 03 Jan 2022

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the PE Department in Primary and Secondary. To further raise the quality and range of sports provision in the school; improve levels of participation and excellence in pupils of all abilities and work alongside teaching staff to ensure the delivery of a high quality PE curriculum.

Duties will include:

  • To provide high quality sports coaching during and after school to help raise attainment and improve competitive sport provision
  • Assist the Sports Achievement Lead in the planning, delivery and evaluation of physical education and school sport to classes of children
  • Provide support to individuals and groups during lessons to enable them to access the curriculum, whilst monitoring progress and dealing with challenges as they arise
  • To ensure all pupils of all abilities are able to participate in PE, catering to their individual needs as per their EHCP
  • Support the development of extra-curricular offers by running sports-based after school clubs
  • Promote an active lifestyle by leading games at lunchtimes, encouraging children to participate
  • Contribute to the implementation of an effective behaviour management strategy, applying it fairly and consistently within clear boundaries and reinforcing positive aspects of behaviour
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, carers and families by taking a partnership approach, maintaining and sharing accurate information where appropriate
  • Be willing to undertake manual handling tasks, intimate personal care, swimming and feeding. (Training will be provided)
  • Follow schools policies and procedures

  • Experience of Sports Coaching and working with school age children of all abilities would be an advantage

  • The successful candidate will be a physical activity role model for our pupils

Desired qualifications

  • GCSEs grade C/4 or above or equivalent is desirable in maths and English

Things to consider

  • This role requires some flexibility; you may be asked to support after school events
  • Some of the teaching will be outdoors
  • You must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check
  • All pupils at the school have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP), the criteria for admission to Exhall Grange is for children who may have one or more of the following needs, visual impairment, complex medical needs, social/communication interaction difficulties including autism. All children are expected to be able to access the National Curriculum, and due to the fragility of some of the children’s needs, we are unable to admit children with challenging behaviour.
  • You will be working with children between the ages of 4 to 19, who all have varying additional needs and requirements
  • You will undertake manual handling, personal intimate care, swimming and feeding of our children
