SCHOOL COUNCIL

  • This year at Exhall Grange a new school council format has been launched. We aim to give pupils a platform in which they can safely use their voices to express opinions, offer ideas and discuss experiences at school.

  • Pupils from year 6 through to Post 16 are given the opportunity at the beginning of the academic year to put themselves forward to become a member of the school council. This involves pupils writing a supporting statement for their nomination, which is then put to the vote.

  • Pupils in the school council are issued with a membership certificate as well as a pin badge and lanyard which they can wear with pride and become easily identifiable around school. A noticeboard dedicated to school council activities is also maintained and kept unto date by pupils, this details important events, news and fundraising results.

  • Elected councillors are responsible for leading year group meetings every half term. They are encouraged to work as a team and use their individual strengths to listen to their peers and find out what matters to the pupils of Exhall Grange. Councillors then bring their findings to a full school council meeting where representatives across the school share what has been discussed and ways in which changes can be made.

  • School council not only discuss ways in which to move the school forward, they also look at supporting charitable organisations and events, such as Children in Need, Mental Health awareness initiatives and Comic Relief. Pupils will arrange fundraising opportunities through a variety of initiatives, as well as competitions and events to bring the whole school together.

  • By leading and attending meetings pupils learn to respect the opinions of others, show integrity in their actions and develop the confidence to become self assured and motivated individuals. These skills go onto support our pupils in moving forward into the world of employability and help evolve their resilience and aspirations ready for life beyond Exhall Grange. All of these values and morals are central to our pupils development.
