The Pod

THE LEARNING POD

Welcome to Exhall Grange Learning Pod, a specialist provision for young people, from aged 14 to 18 years old, with complex social communication difficulties and mental health needs.

There are a maximum of eight young people at any one time in The Learning Pod. It is a safe, calm and relaxed environment. All of our young people are listened to, treated with respect, and are supported by keyworkers to reach their fullest potential.  We work with young people, their families and other professionals to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved for our young people.

OUR HISTORY

The learning Pod first opened its doors in Coleshill, in 2016.  In December 2020, we moved to the main Exhall site to a purpose-built facility which consists of a large learning space, two smaller learning spaces, a lounge, and kitchen and dining area.  We also have a room called “Space” which is designed to be low sensory stimulation for our young people to readjust, rebalance and relax when needed.

WHAT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE THINK OF THE POD

  • “I’m allowed to be me regardless of how I’m feeling”
  • “I never thought I would be able to sit my GCSE’s but Pod supported me to do that”
  • “The staff give you time to process thoughts when you need to, and I always feel supported”
  •  “The support I have had at Pod has given me my confidence back”
  • “Taking my exams at Pod is not as scary as I thought it would be”
  • “I feel so safe and supported here”
  •  “The Pod gave me confidence and helped me get the grades to move onto college”

OUR LEARNING POD VISION

  • We create a safe and nurturing environment that allows our young people to grow and develop, with a bespoke timetable and package of support based on their individual needs, requirements and future aspirations.
  • We are a team of dedicated and experienced staff who focus on wellbeing whilst giving the young people the opportunity to resume their educational studies, giving them the resilience and the skills they require to be able to access their future goals and ambitions.
  • We have a building that provides a safe learning space to ensure the young people are able to develop at their own pace, and they are supported and guided along the way.
  • We explore the young people’s ambitions and hobbies to give them academic and therapeutic choices to enrich their timetable.
  • We give the young people the resilience, confidence and skills to be able to progress in the journey through life.
